The Problem with Playing by the Rules

Most of the rules we follow in life and work were never designed with us in mind. The corporate ladder was built for a different era. The idea that success has to look a certain way was manufactured to keep people in line.

If you have ever felt like you are forcing yourself into a mold that does not fit, you are not alone. The world rewards conformity, but the real game-changers are the ones who burn the rulebook and build their own version of success.

Who Made These Rules Anyway?

Look at the so-called best practices of success. Work your way up? Who says you cannot create your own lane instead? Keep your head down and grind? The loudest voices shape the conversation. Success looks like a title and a corner office? Maybe your version of success is freedom, creativity, and impact.

The truth is, the rules were set by people who do not think like you, do not move like you, and do not live like you. So why should they dictate your path?

What Happens When You Burn the Rulebook?

When you stop trying to fit into someone else’s definition of success, everything shifts. You make moves faster because you are no longer waiting for permission. You attract the right opportunities because people gravitate to authenticity. You create instead of conform because innovation does not come from following a script.

Look at the disruptors, the outliers, the ones who changed the game. They were not following a guidebook. They were writing their own.

The "Unapologetically You" Success Plan

Redefining success on your own terms means making intentional choices. Decide what success actually looks like for you, not what you were told it should be. Stop waiting for credentials, permission, or the perfect moment to start. Own your voice because the world adjusts to those who show up boldly. Challenge norms daily, whether it is how you structure your time, how you lead, or how you define success.

Why This Matters Now

OK You may be. wondering why this is going out now. Because of the proposed budget that just came out. I wanted to share.

House Republicans have introduced a budget plan that includes $4.5 trillion in tax cuts while also raising the debt ceiling by $4 trillion. The tradeoff includes deep spending cuts to social services, Medicaid, and other programs that impact real people.

This means massive tax cuts benefiting corporations and the wealthy while billions in spending cuts target healthcare, education, and social programs. At the same time, there is a significant increase in funding for defense and immigration enforcement.

These policies are not just numbers on a page. They define who gets access, who gets support, and who gets left behind. If we do not pay attention, these choices will be made for us, not by us.

This is important, and I am adding it to the conversations I am having. Clarity matters. Power matters. Understanding how these decisions impact us now is how we start shifting the game.
